The Skin's Energy Cycle
SWiCH Dermal Rejuvenation System ~ The Magic and Science
Circadia’s signature treatment, the SWiCH Dermal rejuvenation system, has pioneered the transition from traditional chemical and manual exfoliation techniques to less invasive alternatives. This exclusive system was developed by Dr. Pugliese to restore skin’s optimal appearance without the injury or downtime of established peel techniques.
The main premise of chemical peels is to initiate a controlled damage of the skin, in order to incite the body’s own mechanisms of repair. Conversely, SWiCH utilizes biological metabolites which naturally function within nearly every cell of the body to stimulate energy production. SWiCH stands for (Skin Wellness in Cellular Health) and initiates cellular boosting of energy in the skin to increase its wellness and vitality.
Between the ages of 35 and 40, a decrease in energy production can be seen in virtually all systems of the body, particularly in the skin. This diminished bioenergetic capacity can be safely boosted with SWiCH, increasing the production of the cell’s energy source. Candidates for SWiCH are mature clients, who show visible signs of aging—fine lines, lax skin, irregular pigmentation and a dull appearance. The SWiCH Dermal rejuvenation system may be used on all fitzpatrick skin types.
When performed on a regular schedule with supporting home care products, SWiCH reduces fine lines, diminishes hyperpigmentation and improves skin texture and tone. SWiCH exhibits a positive influence on dermal matrix proteins, including collagen and elastin.
The non-seasonal treatment is performed every 4 weeks to maximize mitochondrial energy production (ATP) within the Krebs cycle, and safely incites epidermal cell turnover by initiating stem cell activity in the basal layer. Combined with the new Revita-Cyte home care product SWiCH the best and most active rejuventaion product on the market because it 'gives' not 'takes' from the skin.
See how you can make a difference in your clients’ skin. SWiCH is the ultimate alternative to chemical peels.
SWiCH™ Dermal Rejuvenation System ~ How it Works?
A scientific breakthrough that helps enhance mitochondrial function and restores skin to its youthful appearance. SWiCH™ Dermal Rejuvenation System gives the professional skin specialist a treatment that performs beyond the results achievable with non-surgical peels.
Skin Type Indications:
Mature, aged, wrinkled/lined, photo-damaged/pigmented, environmentally damaged skin.
SWiCH can also be used for selected wound healing and post surgery repair.
- Based on a physiological principle of inducing the natural repair system of the skin to become active.
- Activation of the repair system effects a restoration of both sun damaged skin and intrinsic skin aging changes.
- Helps induce repair with minimal epidermal damage.
- Unlike most acid-based treatments, the SWiCH™ System is a leave-on system. The active ingredient remains to provide the continuous treatment for repair and restoration.
- Repeated treatment can be performed at regular intervals without risk of over-treatment.
The Philosophy behind the SWiCH™ System.
For over 40 years chemical peeling has been practiced by physicians to rejuvenate sun damaged skin. Both intrinsic and extrinsic aging changes have been the object of many types of skin peeling including chemical, mechanical and thermal modalities. The common thread tying these methods together is the ability of the skin to heal itself when damaged. All of these methods produce some degree of tissue destruction, which incites the natural repair process within the skin. Consistent damage to the epidermis, however, may lead to more serious side effects. In a dermal system that is already overtaxed, the use of these agents creates a greater demand on energy production.
With the SWiCH™ System, it is now possible to achieve repair of the skin without having to induce tissue damage. The body’s repair systems, including that in the skin, are held in a ready state at all times. Understanding what is needed to trigger the system is the key to the efficacy of the SWiCH™ System.
Any repair system requires a large input of energy. Biologically this is in the form of adenosine triphosphate, or ATP. This energy source is generated by a natural cycle as part of the metabolism of food. For the SWiCH™ system to be effective the active ingredients must penetrate into the skin. Next, the repair mechanism must be switched on and the energy supplied – just as you flip a light switch to supply electrical energy to a bulb. The three parts of the SWiCH™ System are (1) effect penetration, (2) generate energy and (3) turn on the repair system.

Commonly asked questions:
Is SWiCH™ safe to use during pregnancy?
Your skin care professional will have a list of ingredients for the SWiCH™. Please consult with your physician for their opinion on what is best for you and your child. While there are no known contraindications, there is also no data on the effect of SWiCH™ on pregnancy. We believe in erring on the safe side, and recommend avoiding as many chemicals as possible during pregnancy.
Can I administer the SWiCH™ treatment more frequently than one per month?
We do not recommend it. The skin needs time to process the changes and get ready for another treatment. In some instances, such as very oily, thick skin, the SWiCH™ could be given every three weeks.
Can I substitute the Epiprep for another means of exfoliating?
No. The Epiprep is not categorized as an exfoliant. It is “opening up component” for the skin to accept and take the SWiCH™ solution deep into the skin, a type of special dermal sink agent. The SWiCH™ System is sold as a complete professional set and needs to be used as directed.
Is it safe and/or beneficial to use SWiCH™ on the hands, arms, and décolleté?
Yes, SWiCH™ works well on the hands and lower arms for age spots, discolorations and general signs of aging. It is safe for use on the neck and décolleté, although it is generally more sensitive than the face and the client may have more flaking and irritation. They will need extra home care products.
The instructions say to keep the EpiPrep and the SWiCH™ solution on for a maximum of 30 minutes. Can I cut that time down to 20 minutes so I can schedule each treatment for an hour?
The ideal time is 30 minutes each step. If you must cut down the time, it should never be less than 20 minutes for optimal results, and never longer than 30 minutes.
Sometimes I feel like I missed a spot when applying the SWiCH™. Can I go back over and reapply the SWiCH™ solution?
No, do not reapply the solution. When beginning application, start at the forehead and carefully swipe the applicator across the forehead in steady but consistent pressure. You want to move quickly but not so fast that you miss large areas. The solution will blend together as it penetrates the skin. Do not worry if the application was not perfect.
Do the treatments need to be stopped at some point?
As long as the skin continues to improve and it is in healthy condition, the SWiCH™ treatments may be continued indefinitely. All treatments at some point seem to reach a plateau. If the client experiences a standstill in progress sometimes taking a break and continuing with a series of regular facials for a few months will allow the skin to renew. Going back to a series of SWiCH™ later will give noticeable results once again.
My clients want to continue to use the Fraction V after the recommended 2-3 days post SWiCH™. Is this beneficial and should I sell them extra Fraction V? What other home care products are an option?
This is a common request and the Fraction V can be used as often as desired. The new Revita-Cyte Complex is designed to be used after the SWiCH treatments to support and enhance the effect of the SWiCH and is a more advanced version of the Fraction V's used with the kit. The Cyto-Comm serum can be used with the Revita-Cyte Complex to assist cellular communication and increase the SWiCH result. SWiCH triggers the cells to gobble up the nutrients that are provided by the Revita-Cyte Complex resulting in revitalised and rejuvenated younger loking and feeling skin.
Your natural circadian rhythms can be affected by seasonal changes, fatigue, stress and lack of sleep. This can lead to tired, prematurely aging skin. Our new anti-aging Revita-Cyte Complex, contains CHRONOCYCLIN®, an amazing new chronopeptide, that enhances these natural cycles to awaken skin, as well as MATRIXYL®synthe’6 and Edelweiss Stem Cell Culture Extract which reduces the look of wrinkles, refines skin irregularities, and improves radiance.
Other options you could use, but wait until you have used the 15ml Fraction V and Vitamin Veil which takes 2-3 days are; Aquaporin Hydrating, Tranquili Cream, Glyco-Guard/Counter AGE Serum, Blue Berry Mist, Aloe Mist, Licorice Mist(Idea for Nutrient Hydration during the day), PhiToPep 1.60 Cream.
Does the client have to stop all glycolic acid products before the SWiCH™?
Absolutely. We do not recommend mixing other product lines (especially glycolic acid) when the client is having SWiCH™ treatments. SWiCH is a stand alone system that has its own biological modalities and specific functions.
Can I give microdermabrasion treatments between SWiCH™ treatments?
We do not recommend it. We highly recommend the Circadia Cocoa Enzyme treatment 5—10 days post SWiCH™. If you feel you need to give a microdermabrasion treatment between SWiCH™ treatments, wait 2 weeks after the SWiCH™ and only give one light pass of the microdermabrasion.
Can I combine LED treatments with the SWiCH™?
Yes, but not on the same day. Please consult your skin care professional for details. We suggest you would do this at least 7 days after or before as a minimum.
Can I still give the SWiCH™ to someone who forgets to stop using their Vitamin A cream before their scheduled appointment?
No. The skin will respond differently and it may cause unnecessary inflammation and irritation. It is much safer to reschedule the appointment for at least a week later and stop all Vitamin A use. The client may start reusing Vitamin A a week after the SWiCH treatment, and as per our Circadian philosophy use only at night for best effect.
Is it safe to give the SWiCH™ treatment to a client who shows areas of dry skin?
For best results from the SWiCH™, the skin should not have dry patches or areas that may be of concern to you. Use that appointment to give the client a soothing, hydrating facial and reschedule the SWiCH for the next time. You may want to have the client use Circadia’s Moisture on Demand to replenish the dry areas.
Will the SWiCH™ help acne?
The SWiCH is an anti-aging treatment. There are better choices for acne such as the Cocoa enzyme application with the Oxygen Rx Treatment. The skin type and grade of acne will determine what treatment is best for each individual condition.
Will the SWiCH™ help rebuilding the skin from surgical incisions after surgery?
The SWiCH is designed to rejunvenate the skin and enhance cellular activity so it will help if a client has had surgery from accidents, dog bites, mole removal, devitalised conditions, wounds, etc. The home care product Post Peel can also be used to help rebuild the skin as it supplies a skin identical lipid complex that helps retain moisture in the skin after dermal trauma. Should you have had an intensive face lift then wait at least 2-3 month before using SWiCH but other parts of the body are okay fo SWiCH.
Will the SWiCH™ help to rid the skin of brown spots?
Yes, it will. The client should be given the White Veil Brightener two weeks prior to the first SWiCH™ treatment. It should be used daily along with the Vitamin C Reversal Serum and the Circadia Light Day Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF-37 for the duration of the SWiCH™ treatments.
My client returned from vacation with a fading tan and I gave her a SWiCH™ Treatment. The client wanted to help repair the damage caused by the sun. I thought since the tan was fading and she wasn’t in the sun for a few days, it was safe to do a SWiCH™ Treatment. The client broke out in little bumps immediately and got very irritated. What happened?
Even though her skin was not red or sun burned, it was damaged recently from the sun. A tan is the skin responding to injury. The skin was still attempting to heal itself from the sun and the SWiCH™ was simply too much—too soon. The client needs to allow the skin to heal, protect from the sun at all times, do not use anything aggressive at home, and return to you in 4 weeks.
Can I give the SWiCH™ to a 28 year old with good skin, but concerned about aging?
It is best to wait until she is at least 30–35 years old to begin the SWiCH™ treatments, unless they have very poor skin. The younger client will benefit from home care products such as the Circadia Nighttime Repair, Vitamin C Reversal Serum, Light Day Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF-37. The Alpha/Beta Peel or the Lactic Infusion could be administered, finishing with the Green or Red Tea Mask.
Can I give “micro-current” treatments in combination with the SWiCH™?
SWiCH™ has not been tested in combination with micro-current machines. We can not give you any specific guidelines or protocols. We do feel the skin needs a full month to renew and repair after a SWiCH treatment. If you feel you could give increased benefits from combining the two, wait at least 10–14 days after the SWiCH™ to give a micro-current treatment. Do not give a micro-current treatment immediately before or after a SWiCH™ treatment.
How do I decide which treatment to give my client; the Oxygen Rx or the SWiCH™?
The SWiCH™ is an anti-aging skin rejuvenation treatment. Anyone interested in maintaining youthful, healthy skin, repairing sun damage, improving fine lines and wrinkles, and improving the overall integrity of the skin is a good candidate for the SWiCH™.
The Oxygen Rx Treatment is excellent for treating acne, lightening and brightening the skin, and for treating Rosacea but also has Collagen and Elastion stimulating components. The Oxygen Rx treatment can be given as frequently as once a week. The SWiCH treatments should be given once a month. The Circadia technical guide will give you additional information on the benefits and contraindications for both the SWiCH™ and the Oxygen Rx Treatment.
